My CIRS Navigation Process

CIRS can feel overwhelming because healing often involves much more than simply taking supplements or following a single treatment plan. Environmental exposure, testing, medical care, lifestyle factors, cross-contamination, and the sequence in which different pieces are addressed can all matter.

As a Shoemaker Protocol Trained CIRS Health Coach, my role is to help you understand the bigger picture, become better organized, and navigate your journey with education, structure, and support while working alongside your qualified healthcare providers.

Step 1: Complimentary 20 Minute Discovery Call

We begin with a complimentary 20-minute Discovery Call.

This gives me an opportunity to learn about your situation, where you currently are in your CIRS journey, your primary concerns, whether you are still dealing with a possible exposure, and what type of support you are looking for.

It also gives you an opportunity to learn about my approach and determine whether CIRS Healing & Consulting LLC is the right fit for you.

Step 2: Comprehensive Client Intake

If we decide to work together, the next step is a more detailed intake.

We look at the overall history rather than focusing on one symptom or one laboratory result.

Depending upon your situation, this may include reviewing:

  • Checkmark inside a gradient circle icon.

    Your health and symptom history

  • Checkmark inside a gradient circle icon.

Known or suspected water-damaged building exposure

  • Checkmark inside a gradient circle icon.

Previous homes, workplaces, or other environments of concern

  • Checkmark inside a gradient circle icon.

    Your CIRS history

  • Checkmark inside a gradient circle icon.

    Previous environmental testing

  • Checkmark inside a gradient circle icon.

CIRS-related laboratory testing you already have

  • Checkmark inside a gradient circle icon.

    VCS testing you have completed

  • Checkmark inside a gradient circle icon.

Providers you are currently working with

  • Checkmark inside a gradient circle icon.

    Previous treatments or protocols

  • Checkmark inside a gradient circle icon.

    Current environmental concerns

  • Checkmark inside a gradient circle icon.

    Cross-contamination concerns

  • Checkmark inside a gradient circle icon.

Lifestyle factors and obstacles that may be making your journey more difficult

The purpose is to understand where you are now and what has already been done.

Step 3: Identify Where You Are in the CIRS Journey

Every client comes to me at a different point.

Some people are just beginning to suspect CIRS.

Others already have a diagnosis but do not understand what to do next.

Some have been through treatment but continue to struggle because environmental exposure or another piece of the puzzle may not have been adequately addressed.

Together, we organize the information so that you can better understand where you are in the process and what areas may need further discussion with the appropriate professionals.

Step 4: Environmental Exposure and Safety Education

One of the most important parts of navigating CIRS is understanding the environment.

We discuss your known or suspected exposures and the different tools that may be used by qualified professionals when investigating an environment.

Education may include topics such as:

  • Checkmark inside a gradient circle icon.

    Water-damaged buildings

  • Checkmark inside a gradient circle icon.

    Mold and microbial exposure

  • Checkmark inside a gradient circle icon.

    ERMI and HERTSMI 2

  • Checkmark inside a gradient circle icon.

    Mold detection dogs

  • Checkmark inside a gradient circle icon.

    Professional environmental inspections

  • Checkmark inside a gradient circle icon.

    Moisture and building-related concerns

  • Checkmark inside a gradient circle icon.

    Actinobacteria

  • Checkmark inside a gradient circle icon.

    Endotoxins

  • Checkmark inside a gradient circle icon.

    Beta glucans

  • Checkmark inside a gradient circle icon.

    Cross contamination

  • Checkmark inside a gradient circle icon.

    Belongings and contents

  • Checkmark inside a gradient circle icon.

Creating and maintaining a cleaner living environment

Environmental testing and inspection results should be interpreted within the larger context and should not be treated as a standalone diagnosis or guarantee of environmental safety.

When professional inspection, testing, remediation, or clearance is needed, those services should be performed by appropriately qualified professionals.

Step 5: Help You Understand CIRS Testing and Objective Information

CIRS involves much more than symptoms alone.

I can help educate you about commonly discussed CIRS tools and biomarkers so that you are better prepared to have productive conversations with your healthcare provider.

This may include education about:

  • Checkmark inside a gradient circle icon.

    Clustered symptoms

  • Checkmark inside a gradient circle icon.

    VCS testing

  • Checkmark inside a gradient circle icon.

    HLA susceptibility

  • Checkmark inside a gradient circle icon.

    CIRS-related laboratory markers

  • Checkmark inside a gradient circle icon.

    Environmental exposure history

  • Checkmark inside a gradient circle icon.

    Previous testing and results

  • Checkmark inside a gradient circle icon.

The purpose of different stages of evaluation

I do not order laboratory testing, diagnose CIRS, interpret testing as a medical provider, or determine treatment.

Medical testing, diagnosis, and treatment decisions remain between you and your licensed healthcare providers.

Step 6: Understand the Shoemaker Protocol and Treatment Sequence

CIRS treatment is typically approached as a structured and sequential process rather than addressing everything at once.

I help clients understand the overall framework of the Shoemaker Protocol and why sequencing can matter.

We can discuss where you appear to be within that framework, questions you may want to bring to your provider, and how the environmental and medical portions of the journey connect.

Your physician or other appropriately licensed healthcare professional remains responsible for determining whether a treatment is appropriate for you, prescribing medications, ordering testing, interpreting medical results, and directing your medical care.

Step 7: Cross Contamination and Everyday Environmental Navigation

For many people, one of the most confusing parts of CIRS is figuring out how to live while dealing with environmental concerns.

I provide education to help clients better understand topics such as:

  • Checkmark inside a gradient circle icon.

    Moving from a contaminated environment

  • Checkmark inside a gradient circle icon.

    Cross contamination

  • Checkmark inside a gradient circle icon.

    Clothing and personal belongings

  • Checkmark inside a gradient circle icon.

    Furniture and porous materials

  • Checkmark inside a gradient circle icon.

    Cleaning considerations

  • Checkmark inside a gradient circle icon.

    Maintaining a cleaner space

  • Checkmark inside a gradient circle icon.

    Avoiding unnecessary re-exposure

  • Checkmark inside a gradient circle icon.

Questions to consider when evaluating a new environment

The goal is not to create fear around your environment. The goal is to help you make more informed and organized decisions.

Step 8: Lifestyle and Foundational Support

CIRS can affect virtually every part of a person's life.

Within the appropriate scope of health coaching, we can discuss foundational areas that may support your overall journey, including:

  • Checkmark inside a gradient circle icon.

    Nutrition and lifestyle habits

  • Checkmark inside a gradient circle icon.

    Sleep

  • Checkmark inside a gradient circle icon.

    Stress management

  • Checkmark inside a gradient circle icon.

    Nervous system support

  • Checkmark inside a gradient circle icon.

    Daily routines

  • Checkmark inside a gradient circle icon.

    Pacing

  • Checkmark inside a gradient circle icon.

    Organization

  • Checkmark inside a gradient circle icon.

    Preparing for medical appointments

  • Checkmark inside a gradient circle icon.

    Tracking symptoms and progress

  • Checkmark inside a gradient circle icon.

Building sustainable habits while navigating chronic illness

These strategies are educational and supportive and are not substitutes for medical treatment.

Step 9: Help You Prepare for Your Healthcare Appointments

Many clients have accumulated years of symptoms, testing, environmental information, and medical records.

I can help you organize the information and develop questions to discuss with your healthcare team.

Instead of walking into an appointment overwhelmed and unsure where to begin, the goal is for you to have a clearer understanding of:

Where you've been.
Where you are now.
What has already been investigated.
What questions still need answers.

The goal is not to create fear around your environment. The goal is to help you make more informed and organized decisions.

Step 10: Create Your Personalized CIRS Navigation Roadmap

After reviewing the different pieces of your situation, we organize them into a personalized navigation roadmap.

Your roadmap may identify:

What has already been completed

What still needs clarification

Environmental concerns that may require professional evaluation

Questions to discuss with your healthcare provider

Educational resources that may help you better understand CIRS

Areas where additional professional support may be appropriate

Practical priorities to help you stay organized

This roadmap is not a medical treatment plan. It is an educational navigation tool designed to help you understand and organize your individual CIRS journey.

Step 11: Ongoing Coaching and Navigation

CIRS is rarely a straight line.

As your environment changes, new testing is completed, or your healthcare provider moves you through different stages of care, new questions often arise.

Ongoing coaching provides a place to regroup, review what has changed, organize questions, understand educational information, and continue moving through the process without having to navigate everything alone.

Sessions may be scheduled based upon your individual needs and where you are in your journey.

My Approach

My approach is based on one central principle:

Look at the whole picture.

CIRS navigation can involve the person, the environment, objective information, medical care, lifestyle, and the practical realities of living with a complex chronic illness.

My goal is not to diagnose you or tell you what medical treatment you should receive.

My goal is to educate, help you organize the pieces, identify questions that may need to be answered, connect the environmental and CIRS pieces, and help you become a more informed participant in your own care.

Important Scope of Services

CIRS Healing & Consulting LLC provides health coaching, education, navigation, and informational support.

Services do not constitute medical care, diagnosis, treatment, prescribing, psychotherapy, environmental inspection, remediation, legal advice, or another licensed professional service.

I do not replace your physician or other qualified healthcare or environmental professionals.

All medical symptoms, diagnoses, laboratory testing, medications, supplements, treatment decisions, and changes to medical care should be discussed with an appropriately licensed healthcare provider.

Environmental inspection, testing, remediation, clearance, and property-related decisions should be performed or evaluated by appropriately qualified professionals.

The goal is education, organization, navigation, and support so that you can make informed decisions with the appropriate professionals throughout your CIRS journey.

When you become a client of mine, you will have access to email and text me with any needs or questions that you have.
